Hot Tub Removal in NJ, PA & DE

Hot tub removal means the tub, the cover and the steps leave your yard and you get the deck or patio back. It is one of the few backyard jobs that is truly not a do-it-yourself project: an empty hot tub weighs several hundred pounds and rarely fits through a gate.

Why People Get Rid of Them

It stopped working

A dead pump, heater or control board, and the repair costs more than the tub is worth.

It came with the house

You bought the property, not the hot tub, and you would rather have the patio.

Selling the house

An old or non-working spa can raise questions with buyers and inspectors. Gone is simpler.

Nobody uses it

It costs electricity and chemicals to keep running, or it sits empty collecting leaves.

Why It Is Not a Curbside Item

  • Weight. Even drained, a full-size acrylic hot tub weighs several hundred pounds.
  • Size. Most will not pass through a standard gate or around the side of a house in one piece.
  • Town limits. Municipal bulk programs are built for furniture and mattresses. Many cap items by weight, and none we know of will carry a spa out of a backyard.
  • Mixed materials. Acrylic or fiberglass shell, foam insulation, a wood or composite cabinet, pumps, a heater and wiring all have to be handled at disposal.

What You Need to Do First

  1. Disconnect the power. Most hot tubs are hardwired on a dedicated 240-volt circuit. Have a licensed electrician disconnect and make the wiring safe. Shutting off the breaker is not the same thing. We are haulers, not electricians.
  2. Drain it. Completely, a day or two ahead, so the water is not sitting in the shell on removal day.
  3. Clear the path. Move patio furniture, planters and grills, and tell us about gates, steps, fences and slopes between the tub and the street.
  4. Send photos. The tub, what it sits on, and the route out. Access is most of the job, and photos are how we quote it accurately.

How Hot Tub Removal Works

01

Photos and Quote

Tub size, what it sits on or in, and the path to the truck. You get an upfront number.

02

Prep

Power disconnected by your electrician, tub drained, path cleared.

03

Removal

Depending on access, the tub comes out whole or is taken apart on site and carried out in sections.

04

Haul and Sweep

Tub, cover, steps and debris are loaded and the area is swept. Metal components are recycled.

What Affects the Price

  • Access. A tub on a ground-level pad next to the driveway is the simple case. One on a raised deck, behind a narrow gate, or sunk into a deck takes longer.
  • Size. A two-person tub and an eight-person tub are different volumes in the truck.
  • What else is going. The cover, the lifter, steps, a gazebo frame or surrounding decking add volume.
  • Weight at disposal. Facilities bill by weight as well as volume.

We price by volume and access, and we quote from photos so the number does not change on the day. More on our pricing page and in how junk removal pricing works.

Deck or pad too? If there is decking, a gazebo or a concrete pad around the tub that you also want gone, say so when you send photos so it is included in the quote rather than discovered on the day.

While We Are in the Yard

Hot tub jobs often turn into a backyard reset. We also haul:

  • Sheds, swing sets and playsets
  • Above-ground pool frames
  • Patio furniture and grills, with the propane tank removed
  • Old fencing and deck boards

See our junk removal page and the full list of what we take. If the garage is next, see garage cleanouts.

Hot Tub Removal FAQs

How much does hot tub removal cost?

Hot tub removal is priced by volume and access: the size of the tub, what it sits on, and how hard the path is from the tub to the truck. We quote upfront from photos, and the estimate is free.

Do I need to drain the hot tub first?

Yes. The tub should be completely drained a day or two before removal.

Do you disconnect the electrical?

No. Most hot tubs are hardwired on a 240-volt circuit, and a licensed electrician should disconnect the tub and make the wiring safe before we arrive.

Can you remove a hot tub from a deck or a fenced yard?

In most cases, yes. Tubs on raised decks or behind narrow gates usually have to be taken apart on site and carried out in sections. Send photos of the tub and the route out so we can quote it accurately.

Will you take the cover and steps too?

Yes. The cover, cover lifter and steps go with the tub, and we can haul other backyard items such as sheds, swing sets and patio furniture in the same visit.
