Roadside Cleanouts removes old appliances across South Jersey, the Philadelphia area and Northern Delaware. One dead washer or a full kitchen and laundry room. We are a family-owned crew based in Franklinville, NJ. Call or text (848) 221-7034 with what it is and where it is, and you will have a price before we come out.
Appliances We Remove

Refrigerators, freezers, chest freezers, wine and beverage coolers.

Ranges, ovens, cooktops, dishwashers, microwaves.
Cooling and air
Window and portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers.

Two Kinds of Appliance, Two Different Rules
Steel boxes
Washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers and water heaters are mostly steel. They go to scrap metal recycling, and working ones can often be donated.
Anything with refrigerant
Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are different. Under Section 608 of the federal Clean Air Act it is illegal to knowingly release refrigerant when one of these is disposed of, and the facility that scraps it has to recover the refrigerant with certified equipment or document that it was already done.
That is why these units typically cost more to get rid of, and why some town pickups will not take them at all. It is also why you should never cut the lines or strip one for copper.
Refrigerant surcharge: units containing refrigerant carry a disposal fee at the facility because of the certified handling involved. We pass it through at cost and name it in your quote before you agree.
Check This First: Your Utility Might Pay You
If the appliance still works, look at your electric company before you call anyone, us included. Atlantic City Electric’s Appliance Recycling Program, which covers much of South Jersey, currently offers $100 for a working refrigerator or freezer between 10 and 30 cubic feet, $50 for a working dehumidifier, and an additional $50 for a room air conditioner collected at the same visit, with free pickup. PSE&G and JCP&L run their own versions.
It only applies to working units and to that utility’s residential customers. If yours qualifies, use it. If the unit is dead, in a basement, or one of several, that is where we come in.
Why Town Pickup Often Falls Short
- It runs on the town’s calendar. Cherry Hill collects appliances on Wednesdays by appointment. Clayton collects on two Wednesdays a month and excludes refrigerated units. Millville collects the last full week of the month, limit two.
- It starts at the curb. Getting a refrigerator up the basement stairs and out to the street is the hard part, and it is yours.
- Doors have to come off. Towns across the region require refrigerator and freezer doors to be removed or secured first.
- Businesses and vacant properties are often excluded. Some towns do not collect from commercial or vacant properties at all.

How Pricing Works
Appliances are priced by the space they take in the truck, plus access. A single appliance is a minimum-load job. Several appliances, or appliances as part of a larger load, are priced on total volume. Stairs matter: a refrigerator from a ground-floor kitchen is a different job from a chest freezer in a basement. See our pricing page and how junk removal pricing works.
When It Is More Than Appliances
- Clearing a rental between tenants: commercial cleanouts and property cleanouts for landlords
- A whole house: residential cleanouts or estate cleanouts
- Old cabinets and counters from a kitchen remodel: junk removal
- Furniture and beds too: furniture removal and mattress removal

Appliance Removal FAQs
How much does appliance removal cost?
Appliance removal is priced by the space the unit takes in the truck plus access, such as stairs. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers also carry a refrigerant disposal surcharge, which is named in the quote upfront. Estimates are free.
Do you take refrigerators and freezers?
Yes. We remove refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Because they contain refrigerant, they are routed to certified handling and carry a disposal surcharge that is quoted before you agree.
Do I need to disconnect the appliance first?
Yes. Please have appliances unplugged and disconnected from water and gas before we arrive. A licensed professional should cap any gas line.
Will you remove an appliance from the basement?
Yes. We carry appliances out from basements, upper floors and garages. Stairs and access are factored into the quote.
Can I get paid to recycle an old refrigerator in New Jersey?
Possibly. Atlantic City Electric currently offers $100 for a working refrigerator or freezer between 10 and 30 cubic feet, with free pickup, for its residential customers. PSE&G and JCP&L run similar programs. The unit must be in working order.
