Why Furniture Is Harder Than It Looks
Getting rid of furniture sounds simple until you try it. The usual obstacles:
- It is not on the ground floor. A sleeper sofa in a finished basement or a dresser on the third floor of a rowhome is a two-person carry on stairs that were not built for it.
- Your town’s limits. Curbside rules vary widely. Some towns allow one bulk item a week, some want a phone call or a paid sticker, and some cap single items at 50 pounds. Our guides to Cherry Hill and Philadelphia show how different two towns can be.
- Donation centers are selective. Most will not take upholstered pieces with stains, tears, pet hair or smoke odor, and many do not pick up.
- It does not fit in a car. Renting a truck for one couch rarely makes sense.
How Furniture Removal Works
01
Send a Photo
Call or text with what you have and where it is in the house. A photo is usually enough for a firm number.
02
Get the Price
Upfront, with any surcharge items named before you agree. Free and no obligation.
03
We Carry It Out
From the basement, the attic or the back bedroom. You do not lift anything.
04
Donate, Recycle, Dispose
Usable pieces go to donation wherever we can place them. The rest is recycled or disposed of properly.
Where the Furniture Goes
Usable furniture is donated wherever we can place it. Habitat ReStores take furniture across our region, and solid, clean pieces are the easiest to place. Metal frames are recycled. Only what is left goes to the transfer station. Our post on what happens to your stuff after a cleanout covers the full route.
One more thing before anything goes on the truck: solid wood and mid-century pieces can be worth real money. If a house has several, read five signs a home has estate sale potential first. We would rather help you sell it through an estate sale than haul it.
How Pricing Works
Furniture is priced by volume: the share of the truck your pieces fill.
| Load size | Looks like |
|---|---|
| Minimum / single item | A sectional, a dresser, a recliner |
| Quarter load | A bedroom set |
| Half load | An apartment’s worth of furniture |
| Full load | A furnished two-bedroom home |
Stairs, long carries and tight turns affect the number, and we factor them into the quote rather than adding them afterward.
Surcharge items: mattresses and box springs, pianos, organs and safes carry a per-piece disposal fee at the facility. We pass it through at cost and name it in your quote before you agree.

Furniture Removal FAQs
How much does furniture removal cost?
Furniture removal is priced by volume, meaning the share of the truck your pieces fill, adjusted for stairs and access. A single item is a minimum-load price and a full house of furniture is one or more truckloads. Estimates are free and given upfront from a photo or description.
Will you take just one couch?
Yes. We take single items as well as full houses of furniture, using the same volume-based pricing.
Do I have to move the furniture outside or to the curb?
No. We carry furniture out from wherever it is in the home, including basements, attics and upper floors.
Do you donate the furniture you pick up?
Usable furniture is donated wherever we can place it, and metal is recycled. Only what cannot be reused or recycled goes to the transfer station.
Do you remove pianos and safes?
Yes. Pianos, organs and safes are accepted and carry a per-piece disposal fee, which is named in your quote before you agree.
