Why a Mattress Is Hard to Get Rid Of
- New Jersey has no mattress recycling program. A few states run one. Here a mattress is ordinary bulky waste, and every town sets its own rules.
- Curbside rules vary by town. Some take a mattress on the regular trash day, some only on a bulk day twice a month, some allow one bulk item per collection, and some want a paid sticker.
- Donation is rarely an option. Most donation centers do not accept used mattresses or box springs.
- It will not fit in a car, and it is a two-person carry down a staircase.
- Landfills charge for it. County facilities bill bulky waste by weight with a minimum fee per visit, and you need your own truck to get it there.

How Pricing Works
A single mattress or set is a minimum-load job. More pieces, or a mattress as part of a larger load, are priced on the total space in the truck. Stairs and access are factored into the quote.
Per-piece disposal fee: mattresses and box springs each carry a disposal fee at the facility. We pass it through at cost and name it in your quote before you agree, never after.
If you are already having other things hauled, adding a mattress to the load is usually the cheapest way to get rid of it. More on our pricing page.
Good Times to Call
- The new bed arrives tomorrow and the store is not taking the old one.
- Move-out day. Landlords often charge for anything left behind.
- Clearing several bedrooms after a death in the family or before a sale. See estate cleanouts and residential cleanouts.
- Rental turnovers where a tenant left bedding behind. See property cleanouts for landlords and realtors.
A Note on Bed Bugs
If there is any chance a mattress has bed bugs, tell us when you call and seal it in a mattress bag before it leaves the bedroom. It keeps them from spreading through the house on the way out, and it lets us handle the piece properly.

Mattress Removal FAQs
How much does mattress removal cost?
A single mattress or set is priced as a minimum load, plus a per-piece disposal fee charged by the facility for each mattress and box spring. The full price is given upfront before you agree, and adding a mattress to a larger load usually costs less than a separate trip.
Do you take box springs and bed frames too?
Yes. We remove mattresses of every size, box springs, foundations, metal and wood bed frames, headboards and bunk beds.
Will you carry the mattress down from upstairs?
Yes. We remove mattresses from any floor, including attics and basements. You do not need to move anything to the curb.
Can a used mattress be donated?
Rarely. Most donation centers do not accept used mattresses or box springs. A clean, nearly new mattress may be accepted by a furniture bank, so call first.
Does New Jersey recycle mattresses?
New Jersey has no statewide mattress recycling program. Mattresses are handled as bulky waste under each town’s own rules and each disposal facility’s fees.
