If you live in Williamstown, bulk trash is a Monroe Township service, and it is a good one. It is also more specific than most people expect. Williamstown bulk pickup runs on Fridays, but which Fridays depends on your regular trash day, and a long list of things never goes on that truck no matter when you put it out.
Here is how it works, straight from the township’s published Public Works guidelines, and where it stops being the right tool for the job.
Which Friday Is Yours
Monroe Township splits bulk collection by trash route:
- Monday and Thursday trash routes: bulk is collected on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.
- Tuesday and Wednesday trash routes: bulk is collected on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month.
That is the pattern, not a guarantee. The township publishes the actual dates each year, and several months have only one bulk date per route. For the rest of 2026 the published dates are:
- Monday and Thursday routes: October 16, November 20, December 4 and December 18.
- Tuesday and Wednesday routes: October 9 and 23, November 20, December 11.
One more rule worth knowing: if a township holiday closing falls in your scheduled bulk week, bulk pickup is suspended for that week. It does not roll to the next Friday. Miss it and you are waiting for the next date on the list.
What the Bulk Truck Takes
The township’s accepted list is practical: furniture, carpeting, bundled brush, doors, mattresses, extra household waste and yard debris. The limits are:
- Carpet: up to 10 rolls.
- Bags: no bag over 40 pounds, and a 10-bag limit.
For a couch, a mattress and a few bags from a garage tidy-up, that is everything you need. Put it out for your Friday and it is gone.
What Monroe Township Will Not Take on Bulk Day
This is the list that catches people. None of the following is collected with bulk trash:
- Construction or remodeling debris of any kind, including sheetrock, flooring, insulation, shingles, siding and plywood
- Bricks, rocks, cinder blocks, stone, concrete, mortar, sand, dirt and stumps
- Pallets and cardboard
- Tires
- Hazardous materials
- Electronic waste: computers, televisions, monitors, gaming systems
- Metal
The township is blunt about the first one: there is no collection of commercial trash or construction debris in Monroe Township, full stop. For construction material it points residents to the Gloucester County Solid Waste Complex at 856-478-6045.
Metal and Appliances: A Separate Friday Pickup You Have to Request
Metal is not bulk in Monroe Township. It is its own collection, it runs every Friday regardless of your bulk week, and it only happens if you ask. The request has to be in by 2:00pm on the Thursday before, either through the township website or by calling Public Works at 856-629-4444.
So an old washer and a sofa are two different pickups with two different rules, even if they are sitting side by side at the curb.
The Public Works Drop-Off
Monroe Township also runs a resident drop-off at Public Works on Wednesdays from 8:00am to 2:00pm and Saturdays from 8:00am to noon. According to the county’s listing for the township it handles computer recycling, car and truck batteries, brush and appliances, household trash and yard debris, plus used motor oil. The township also holds two e-waste and shredding events a year. Call 856-728-9844 before you load the car to confirm what they are taking that day.
Where Bulk Pickup Runs Out
Bulk day is built for the ordinary overflow of a household. It is the wrong tool when:
- The job is a renovation. A torn-out kitchen, bathroom or floor is exactly the material the township refuses. See what we handle on our what we take page.
- The volume is a house, not a pile. Ten bags and a few pieces of furniture every other Friday will not clear a full basement before a closing. That is a residential cleanout, or an estate cleanout if you are settling a parent’s home.
- The list is mixed. A TV, a fridge, a couch and a stack of old flooring means a drop-off run, a metal request, a bulk Friday and a trip to the county complex. Or one crew and one visit.
- It is not at the curb. The township starts at the curb. Getting a sleeper sofa out of a finished basement is the hard part, and it is still yours.
- The property is a rental or a business. Commercial trash is not collected by the township at all. Our commercial cleanouts cover that.
If you are trying to work out whether it is worth doing yourself, DIY junk removal vs. hiring a crew walks through the real costs on both sides.
